Barcelona, Spain (map), 2002 Photograph by Taylor Kennedy
Intended as a posh housing project, architect Antonio Gaudí’s circa-1889 Parque Güell flopped and then resurged as an eccentric public park. Among Gaudí’s mediums were broken bottles, colorful ceramic tile chips, concrete, and rebar, making Parque Güell a testament to the use of recycled materials in architecture.
